I've seen a lot of people come through my doors and all of them have put in a tremendous amount of time and work. Catherine Molyneux is a perfect example of one of those very people. Her strong will, positive attitude, and always friendly face to those around her is a wonderful example of the kind of person we all strive to be.

My personal experience with Catherine has taught me a lot about the struggles women face in the gym. She is a great example of what strength training can do for someone trying to build their confidence, improve their physique, and have an overall better lifestyle.

When I met her, she was was working through a lot things in her personal life and I'm happy to say she's getting closer and closer to an incredible self-confidence. Catherine has worked hard to be where she is today and has every ounce of my support and confidence knowing she'll continue on that path.

Here she is:

Age: 45

What do you do for a living?

I work an inner-city nonprofit organization. I help people leaving homelessness and struggling with mental illnesses and addictions manage their money.

What do you do outside of that?

I nurture my interest in the visual arts by reading works of art theory and history. I am also teaching myself to draw and paint.

How long have you been training with Titanium Strength:

10 months

What does being "strong" mean to you?

Being strong is more than just lifting a lot of weight on the three major lifts, though that matters, too. Strength is knowing that the next fitness challenge or life challenge is within your ability to face and conquer.

What is your all-time favourite exercise and why?

Pull ups. The feeling of moving my body over the bar cannot be beaten. I never thought that I would be able to do it.

What's most important to you in terms of your fitness goals?

In the short run, I just want each workout to be better than the one before. In the long run, I want to know that I have worked to my genetic potential.

What are some of your gym essentials?

My only essential is my water bottle. Lifting makes me thirsty.

If you could do accomplish any task in the world, what would it be?

I would motivate our society to put an end to homelessness.

Do you like to train alone or with a training partner? Why?

I train alone. Focussing on my workout is my favourite form of stress relief. When I am lifting heavy, I am only thinking about the lift. All of my day's worries disappear.

What's the best compliment you've been given? How did you feel about it?

The best compliment I ever received was hearing James bragging to one of his fellow trainers about my strength gains. I walked on air for days after that.

(Editor's note: Also, that booty took a lot of time and dedicated effort on Catherine's part)

Who's the last person you encouraged to start strength training?

My 73 year old mother. You are never too old to get stronger.

What drives you to train?

I love the feeling of accomplishment that I get every time I set a new personal record.

What are some of things you've struggled with during your coaching?

I started out my training wanting to lose weight. Somewhere along the line, cutting back on food stopped being a means to accomplish a goal and turned into the goal. With the help of James and a dietician, I got my head back on straight and am eating healthy amounts again.

What are some things you've done really well at?

I have learned to squat and deadlift with good form. I had not done either before I started working with James.

What is one habit you're working on improving right now?

Not fixating on the three pounds of body fat that I just cannot lose. Life is too short to waste energy on that.

What is the one thing you want to achieve by the end of your training with Titanium Strength?

I want to deadlift 150% of my body weight.

How has coaching helped you change your life?

Getting back into an exercise routine has boosted my energy. It also increased my self confidence and improved my mood in general.

What would you tell someone who's on the fence about starting their training with James?

There is no better use of your time and money than taking care of your health. Working with James has allowed me to achieve things I had not thought possible. With his knowledge and ability to motivate, you can achieve anything!
